Love a Win-Win?

I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.
(Maya Angelou)

Love is giving with no expectations... Love cures, heals, and rewards two people: the lover and the beloved. (Bernie Siegel, MD)

Seek to help and show love for all human beings without expecting anything in return, because they are all our brothers and sisters. In doing so, the reward is already given to you in that inner sense of expansion and that extraordinary sensation of warmth that fill you when you love. This is a marvellous reward; life contains none greater. Your heart can then be likened to a flowing spring. Human beings always expect to be rewarded for what they do. Those who have understood the secret of love don’t even expect receiving anything in return, for they already have a taste of the happiness that nothing else could bring them. And, because they are fulfilled and have no expectations, they radiate joy and win the trust of many friends. What better reward could you hope to find? (O.M. Aïvanhov)

I have decided to stick to love... Hate is too great a burden to bear.
(Martin Luther King Jr.)

How much land has turned to desert due to lack of water! But, also, how many deserts have become fertile land once they had a water supply! Water is life flowing. Those who wish to become a fertile land should always allow the water of life to flow within them, without concern for which trees will grow, flower and give fruit, or which birds will come to sing in them. Some might say, ‘But first I want to know in advance where this tree or this bird will be, and on which branch the bird will sing.’ If they wait to know all the details before deciding to let the water flow, centuries will go by without any grass growing or bird singing. So let the water flow, and you will see how everything will find its place, how everything will sing and everything will flower. Letting the water flow means never ceasing to love. Whatever happens, never close your heart, for that would be letting your inner world turn to desert. Others may not need your love, but you do need to love. (O.M. Aïvanhov)

How often you hesitate to show kindness, thinking that no one will appreciate your gesture, that human beings are ungrateful, even mean, and that it’s not worth trying to do anything for them. Well, that is a very harmful way of thinking, as it paralyses what is best in you. You may have done some good for someone and not been rewarded. You may even have been wronged. It does happen. But your behaviour should not depend on other people’s attitudes. Do good and expect nothing. Count only on the One who sees everything, who knows everything. He alone can appreciate your good and generous acts, so it is from him that your reward will come, but perhaps in a different form from the one you were expecting. You will be in better health, stronger, wiser and happier – isn’t that the best reward of all? (O.M. Aïvanhov)

When the power of love becomes more important than the love of power, then there will be peace. (Jimi Hendrix)

You have been meditating deeply for a long time, sending light and love to the whole world; and then you feel like getting some exercise and you go out for a walk in the street. When you return a short while later, you don’t realise you have made the slightest effect on those whom you passed. If you were clairvoyant, you would see the benefit your presence has had, without your knowing it, on the strangers you came across. Some who had planned to do wicked things have abandoned their plans, while others who were feeling troubled or down have found a little serenity and hope. Never forget that when you progress on the path of light and unconditional love, you can have a positive effect on all the creatures you come across. Even if you feel that your thoughts and feelings have no influence on your surroundings, there is always something nearby that stirs, moves or that is stimulated as a result. (O.M. Aïvanhov)

You never know what causes certain people to achieve or to excel. Sometimes they have neither the courage nor the power to do something for themselves, but the desire to help someone else, to rescue them, triggers unexpected energy. There was once a woman who was paralysed. For years she did not move at all. But then one night a fire broke out in the house. Her child sleeping in another room was in danger, and there was no one to help. She suddenly drew herself up and went to fetch her child. On hearing this, the neighbours could not believe it, and yet it was true: this woman’s love for her child was stronger than her paralysis. This is why you should love! Your love will give you the intelligence to know what to do and the strength to do it. You find that you have neither knowledge nor power? Simply love! Knowledge and power will come. (O.M. Aïvanhov)

The highest reward for a person’s work is not what they get for it, but what they became by it. (John Ruskin)

It is in thinking about others and working for them that we become wealthy. At first of course, the exact opposite is true. In the beginning, those who are full of love, kindness, and self-sacrifice are considered a little foolish and are used and abused by those around them. But as time passes, they are appreciated more and more, and one day everyone expresses their love for them. They just need to be patient.
When you put a sum of money in the bank, you do not receive the interest right away, do you? You must wait. Exactly the same law applies in the spiritual realm. You work with a great deal of love and disinterestedness, and at first you see no results. But you must not be discouraged: one day wealth will come to you from every direction, and you will not be able to escape it even if you try. The entire universe will shower you with extraordinary riches, because it is you who have engendered them. This is one of the forms of justice.
(O.M. Aïvanhov)

Try to forget all the things you lack. How can you feel lonely, impoverished or humiliated when you have the opportunity of using your thoughts to embrace the whole universe and unite with all the light beings that live therein? No one can take these treasures away from you. What does it take to make you understand that you live in affluence, and that you can also help others with this abundance? Seek at least to look at them with love and to send them some beneficial particles from your heart. Not only will you then feel happy and fulfilled, you will no longer feel that you are lacking things.
Learn to be generous and you will become richer. In wanting to take, you instead become poorer. If you become wealthier by giving, it means that you set unknown forces in motion – ones that were dormant and stagnating deep down within. Once you decide to project these forces, they will begin to flow and circulate. You will even ask yourself, ‘How is this possible? I gave and I have found wealth.’ Yes, that is where the mystery of love lies. (O.M. Aïvanhov)

This is a finding that keeps re-emerging in social science: people with a giving approach are flourishing in a world of interdependency. The evidence also shows that the most successful givers are strategic, seeking out diversity but cutting off selfish people who seek to exploit them. As one researcher put it: "a giving attitude is a powerful asset when allied to social intelligence."... A world with more kindness and creativity is one to look forward to. We would be reaching out for new solutions, rebelling against outmoded ideas, but in a spirit of collaboration, helping us to become successful.
As one psychologist put it: "According to conventional wisdom, highly successful people have three things in common: motivation, ability and opportunity…. [but] there is a fourth ingredient: success depends heavily on how we approach our interactions with other people. Do we try to claim as much value [for ourselves] as we can, or do we contribute value? It turns out that these choices have staggering consequences for success." Prairie dog sings

Love does not cost anything. Kind words and deeds do not cost anything. The real beauty of the world is equal for everyone to see. It was given by God equally to all, without restrictions.
Everyone was given a beautiful vehicle in which to express love to others. Feelings are free to express and give to ourselves and each other through our willingness to give and care.
What is complicated about this... Why have we made others feel they have to climb mountains and swim oceans in order to make a difference?
All we need to understand my friends, is that human life was given equally to us all, not partially but in totality.
The sun was given to all. It does not shine on the few. So, just as nature is indifferent to our station or situation, we need to know that we are all equal. We need to focus on the things that are constant and not place our values on things that can be blown away with the next, great, wind.
Value life in whatever house it dwells. For when it comes time that we are all stripped to bare bones before the divine and facing eternity, we will understand that the only law we were meant to follow, was to love ourselves and each other. Nothing more... nothing less.

(Carla Jo Masterson)

I had found a kind of serenity, a new maturity... I didn't feel better or stronger than anyone else but it seemed no longer important whether everyone loved me or not - more important now was for me to love them. Feeling that way turns your whole life around; living becomes the act of giving. (Beverly Sills)

Kindness is king. I think this [Covid-19] year has shown us that. There’s no point getting to the top of that mountain in life – whatever that mountain is, whether it’s getting a degree, or starting a business, or whatever – if you’re an arsehole.

Try to understand that love is a state of consciousness. This is worth meditating on – for years even – if you want to further your evolution. As long as you do not know love as a state of consciousness, you will remain blindfolded and in darkness, never understanding what life is about.
Of all the qualities that can help bring you closer to this state of consciousness, purity is the most important. Purity means thoughts and feelings that are devoid of selfishness. The three words – life, love and purity – are linked. Why? Because life depends on love, and the purer this love is, the richer, brighter, more beautiful and abundant life is. The meaning of life is to love and be loved. When your love for others is pure, you are like a fountain of life for them, just as those who love you bring you life too. (O.M. Aïvanhov)
